Workshops And Festivals
Sometimes what you need is to get away and spend a few days completely immersed in the world of jazz guitar. Here are three that I teach at, or attend regularly. The week-long Yosemite jazz guitar workshop takes place in the summer near Yosemite national park in California. The Central Coast Jazz Guitar Festival, on California’s Central Coast, runs Friday – Sunday in/around February. Both of these are presented my Rich Severson, from Guitar College.The Rocky Mountain Archtop Festival happens in the fall in Colorado. All have incredible faculty, classes, concerts, jam sessions, and a LOT more. You will find some of my materials from the Yosemite and Central Coast events under the Intermediate and Advanced menus in the “For Guitarists” section of the website.

Freddie Green
Freddie Green was the guitarist in count Basie band for decades, and his rhythm section playing is pretty much the gold standard for straight-ahead big band guitar. It’s an essential style and skill for jazz guitarist to master. You can visit his website below.

Ted was a fantastic guitarist and teacher. He had an incredible sense of harmony, and set the bar really when it comes to creative chord voicings. Fortunately, there is a website that has archived a lot of Ted’s work. Check it out at the link below.
Online Goldmine
Jazz On The Tube is a fantastic clearinghouse for jazz videos, all eras and all instruments. Definitely worth exploring!
