Description
Lily, Dancing On The Wind was commissioned by Marissa Honda and Nathan Johnson in 2013. It is scored for oboe, trumped piano (an adaptation for two trumpets and piano is also available.) There is a brief improvised section for the trumpet, all in Eb Ionian (concert.)
The piece is as buoyant, playful, and expressive as Lily herself. She’s the daughter of a colleague in the Fresno City College music department. As a toddler, she sometimes attended departmental recitals or concerts, sitting in the back until she just HAD to dance—joyfully and without a trace of self-consciousness. I tried to capture that spirit in this piece.
