Commissioned by Paul Lucckesi for the San Joaquin Valley Jazz Festival
Mira Costa is a beautiful medium tempo (mm = 132) bossa that is ideal for young bands. The melody is played first by alto/tenor/trumpet/bone (with optional guitar or vibes.) The soloist (any of the above) can stay in C minor as the changes move around that key. Easy for brass: lead trumpet stays in the staff. Rhythm parts are mostly notated (or easy chord slashes for bass, guitar.) This chart also works really well for reduced or unusual instrumentation (see the YouTube video below, a middle school B band performance.) Consider this one for the middle tune in your festival set.
