Description
And In Return is an even 8th-note contemporary piece in 6/4, featuring tenor and guitar solos (a sheet of transposed solo changes is included if there is no guitarist.) This is a personal favorite of mine…I love the tenor/bass melodic statement, the rich harmonies and those “consonant” dissonances, the orchestration (gotta love those horns; see below!)
There are a few doubles: Alto 1/flute, tenor 2/clarinet, and bari/bass clarinet. There are also parts for four horns, part of the unique sound on the chart. The horn parts are, I think, really important, so I urge you to round up some volunteers! If that simply is not an option, get in touch with me (mike@mikedanamusic.com) and I can create some cued parts or a synth part (a la Brookmeyer!) to cover the horn lines.
A quick note on the demo…we had a recorder fail at the premiere, so all that is available at this time is a rehearsal recording. I was conducting, not playing guitar, so those parts (and the solo) are missing from the demo. You’ll still get a good feel for the chart, though. 🙂
