Description
Commissioned by the Taipei Jazz Orchestra
Publisher: Mike Dana Music
This piece is based on a traditional Taiwanese love song, and features guitar, alto and trombone solos. It’s set in a light, almost floating (at the beginning) ECM-like even-eighth-note feel, alternating with a stronger Afro-Cuban 12/8. I’ve taken some liberties with both key changes and harmony, in the melody and also for the 3 solo sections. Doubles: alto 1/clarinet, alto 2/flute, tenor 1 flute, bari/bass clarinet. An optional vibes/percussion part is included. Thanks to Cheng-Yu Lee, director of the Taipei Jazz Orchestra, for including me on this CD project!
